While copiers and multifunction printers (MFPs) may seem synonymous, there are a number of differences which warrant consideration. The best way to determine which type of equipment will work best in your office is to take an in-depth look at those different features and functions to find the device that most closely aligns with your type of business and your unique needs.

Multifunction Printers (MFPs)

As the name implies, these devices are designed to perform multiple functions, including copying, printing, scanning and faxing. A multifunction printer has a smaller footprint than a conventional copy machine. Because of their many functions, they will work in any office environment, but can be especially helpful in smaller office environments or workgroups where a separate copier, scanner, or fax machine may not be practical. Depending on the make and model, your MFP may be able to multitask, performing more than one function simultaneously. Many models feature wireless print and offer networking capabilities.

Copiers

Copiers have come a long way over the last few decades, with feature rich technology similar to that of an MFP. With increased speeds, a wide selection of paper, and finishing options, copiers are traditionally a cut above an MFP in performance, but come with a price tag to match. Greater performance capabilities and speed make them ideal for busy offices, or large workgroups where space isn’t of concern.  Their versatility allow them to handle a variety of jobs successfully with professional looking results and finishing options that can include collating, booklet making, three hole punching and more.
